When I look back, security in the cloud has really developed rapidly. In the 2010s, as the cloud grew in popularity, there were many benefits, especially in terms of scalability and flexibility. But with this popularity came security challenges. At that time, more security features and tools began to be integrated to address these challenges.
Later, towards the end of the 2010s, with the rise and complexity of cyberattacks, the cloud became a prime target. This pushed us to intensify our security measures. At this time, regulators, particularly in Europe with the GDPR, also tightened their requirements. This was a time when we and other cloud providers worked to improve our security features and ensure that we met compliance standards.
Today, at Business Filemanager and other cloud providers, we increasingly rely on advanced security measures such as encryption, MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication), IAM (Identity and Access Management) and carry out regular security audits. I also see how important automation has become, especially in the rapid detection and response to security incidents.
The journey doesn't end here. The security landscape in the cloud is constantly changing and we need to stay up to date to protect our customers and their data.

Customer feedback is of central importance to us. It has helped us to prioritize and implement features such as 2-factor authentication, E2E encryption and the security assessment.

The security assessment supports our BFM On-Premises customers in further hardening and securing their operating environment. It includes securing the firewall and the web server, managing access authorizations and patch management for operating system updates. With our security assessment, we ensure the security of our customers' operating environment.
How does a typical security assessment work?
The security assessment begins with a preparation phase, followed by a workshop in which we complete a security checklist together with the customer. We then deliver a report with an evaluation and recommendations for action. If desired, we also provide support with the implementation of the recommended measures.
How does the Business Filemanager sure that no malware, such as viruses, gets through during data exchange?
The Business Filemanager works like an airlock and checks all files for malware. We use a virus scan that checks every file for viruses during upload and cyclically.
