Car charges at the e-charging station

Finding instead of searching: the perfect eMobility journey without tedious charging planning

The summer vacation is already over in most of Germany's federal states. This year, many families went on vacation in an electric car again or for the first time. Fully loaded with the seven things, they went on a long journey. With one difference: charging instead of refueling. And with all the changes that such a switch entails.

This change affects not only vacations, but also everyday trips or visits to relatives. What we want above all is a seamless customer journey - from finding to charging to paying (FIND. CHARGE. PAY.). In our three-part series of blog posts today, we are focusing on the first step of this journey - FIND.

eMobility journey without tedious charging planning

Seamless, intuitive and user-friendly experience

Our goal is to develop user-friendly eMobility systems that combine technology, everyday life and user needs into a seamless, intuitive experience.

Precise navigation and careful charging station selection

Off you go on your journey. Simply set off without bothering to plan the route in advance, taking charging options into account.
Ideally, you will not only be navigated precisely to your destination, but the system will also ensure that you never run out of "juice". An optimized navigation system that takes into account the locations of the charging stations, the direction of entry, the side of your vehicle's charging port and the best route will help you enjoy a relaxed journey. The system also learns your preferences regarding the frequency and duration of breaks and optimizes charging planning accordingly.

Dynamic adjustment of load planning by taking real-time data into account

Intelligent journey planning includes the integration of traffic data, weather conditions and your individual driving profile to determine the optimal route, including charging stops. Your vehicle proactively suggests charging stations along your route, taking into account delays caused by traffic jams or detours, while still ensuring that your energy needs are always covered. The current driving style, consumption and topography of the route ahead are also taken into account.

The consideration of real-time data, such as the current traffic situation, weather conditions and occupancy status of the charging stations, or predicted capacity utilization, is another important aspect in determining an intelligent and optimal route. A system that integrates this data can react dynamically to changes and suggest alternative routes or charging stations. This increases flexibility and ensures that you always have the best options available. This reduces the stress of manual charging planning and increases confidence in the automatic systems.

Optimization of charging stops based on specific needs and personal preferences

Not traveling alone? The vehicle recognizes when you are traveling with children or pets. Smart charging planning can adjust the frequency and duration of charging stops to ensure there are enough opportunities for breaks and, if desired, offer charging stations with playgrounds or walking paths nearby. Likewise, every driver has individual preferences and needs. Whether it's fast charging on a journey or convenient charging when stopping for a meal - your vehicle learns from your habits and recommends suitable charging stations based on charging speed, costs or local services. It also learns to take these preferences into account and suggest suitable charging stations. It could also suggest using unplanned breaks on your route for charging if it recognizes that you are stopping anyway. This personalized approach ensures that charging stops are not only convenient, but also enjoyable.

Use of crowdsourcing for precise charging station data

The reliability and accuracy of charging station data is crucial for a stress-free charging experience. By collecting and sharing user feedback, a crowdsourcing approach can ensure that information about charging stations is always up-to-date and accurate. This community-generated data improves accuracy and builds trust in the eMobility system. In addition, a smart vehicle can collect the relevant data, such as exact charging location, orientation, access road, etc. If enough of this data is collected, navigation can be significantly improved and made more precise.

Predictive charging station suggestions based on personal routines

Unfortunately, not every trip by car takes us on vacation. In most cases, we cover routine routes. Imagine your electric vehicle knows your habits so well that it automatically suggests charging stations in these situations too, even before you have to actively search for them. By analyzing your daily routines, your car can proactively suggest charging stations before the battery runs out. These personalized recommendations could appear on an integrated display, accompanied by a friendly reminder: "It looks like you're heading to the gym again. There's a free charging station nearby, would you like to charge while you're there?"

Summary

"Remember when we still had to search for charging stations manually and plan our charging stops in advance?" - This or something similar is how we will talk about the beginnings of e-mobility in the future. Searching for charging stations is a thing of the past.
Finding a charging station is the first step and lays the foundation for a positive overall experience. By integrating advanced technologies and taking the individual into account, an effortless, intuitive and enjoyable experience is created.

At doubleSlash, we have made it our mission to make e-mobility even more user-friendly. To this end, we develop future-oriented and user-centered software along the eMobility customer journey. Together with colleagues from eMobility and the Design & Digital Experience team, we are working on a user-centric and optimized customer journey along the eMobility use cases. Continue the journey you have started with us and see what happens after you arrive at the charging station. Because finding is just the beginning.

FIND. CHARGE. PAY.
